The B Vitamins, known collectively as Vitamin B-complex, are natural nutrients that are vital for healthy cell metabolism as well as many other functions in the body. At one time they were thought to be a single vitamin, until research showed that what had been designated as Vitamin B was in fact eight different substances, which were then labelled Vitamin B1 (thiamine), Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), Vitamin B7 (biotin), Vitamin B9 (folate or folic acid) and Vitamin B12 (cobalamins). These vitamins all have important functions in the body that include:
- Normal cell energy production
- Nervous system & psychological support (good for stress)
- Maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes
- Immune system support
- Normal cell reproduction
Vitamin B-Complex is a synergistic blend of all the B vitamins. Here are their individual functions:
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
Contributes to normal cell energy production, normal cardiac function, normal nervous system function, normal psychological function and the maintenance of normal neurological development and function.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Contributes to normal cell energy production, normal metabolism of iron, the maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes, normal vision and normal red blood cells, the protection of DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidation, the reduction of fatigue and the normal function of the nervous system.
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
Contributes to normal cell energy production, normal nervous system function, normal psychological functions, maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes and the reduction of fatigue.
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)
Contributes to normal cell energy production, normal psychological performance and normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, Vitamin D and some neurotransmitters, as well as the reduction of fatigue.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
Contributes to normal protein and glycogen metabolism, normal cell energy production, normal homocysteine metabolism, normal cysteine synthesis and the normal function of the nervous system, immune system, and red blood cell formation. It also helps in the regulation of hormonal activity and the reduction of fatigue.
Vitamin B7 (Biotin)
Contributes to normal cell energy production, macronutrient metabolism, maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes, maintenance of normal hair, and normal function of the nervous system and normal psychological function.
Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid or Folate)
Contributes to normal psychological function, normal amino acid synthesis, normal blood formation, normal homocysteine metabolism, and normal immune system function, normal cell division, normal maternal tissue growth during pregnancy and the reduction of fatigue.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin)
Contributes to normal red blood cell formation and normal cell division, normal cell energy production, normal homocysteine metabolism, and normal function of the immune system, neurological and psychological systems.
